Meeting at the Airport
Mr. Lin, the secretary, of China National Textile Import and Export Corporation is asked to pick tip two guests,Mr Charles and his colleague Mr. Hughes, at the airport.
A: Excuse me, are you Mr. Charles from England?
B: Yes, I am.
A: I'm Lin, the secretary of China National Textile Import and Export Corporation.
B: How do you do, Mr. Lin!
A: How do you do, Mr. Charles! Welcome to China.
B: Thank you. This is Mr. Hughes, our purchasing manager.
A: Nice to meet you, Mr. Hughes.
C: Nice to meet you, too, Mr. Lin. It's very kind of you to come and meet us at the airport.
B: I'm sorry to keep you waiting for so long. The plane was delayed in Heilongjiang for half an hour because of the heavy fog.
A: It doesn't matter. Seldom do I have time for the sightseeing of the airport. Did you have a nice journey?
B: Just fine, except the delay, though.
C: Yes. The service is great and food good.
A: I'm glad to hear that. Then, how about the jet lag?
C: That's OK. I think we have been used to flying to and fro.
A: That's true. Well, is this your first trip to China,Mr. Hughes?
C: Yes, the very first time.
A: I hope you will enjoy your stay here in Beijing.
C: Thanks. I'm sure I will.
A: Well, I think the first thing is to send you to the hotel,Mr. Charles, is it alright? Our car is waiting over there.
B: Great!
A: Is there anything you'd like to do before leaving the airport?
B: Nothing. Thank you.
C: Well, I'd like to make a quick phone call.
A: OK, please. Then, would you like a cup of coffee or tea,Mr. Charles?
B: No, thank you. I think I have been fed up with drinks onthe airplane.
(A moment later)
A: OK, let's drive to the hotel now. May I help you with one of your bags?
C: No, thank you. We can manage them all by ourselves.
B: Yes, let's go!
